It's that time of the year where you might be taking a moment to reflect on all the things that happened this year and slapping your forehead for all of the things that DID not happen this year.
I know, I'm there too.
I look back on 2014 and I thought I'd be so much farther along with my business by now and be ready to take it full time. But I'm not and it seems like everyone else is moving forward and doing great things and I'm, well, not. Sound familiar?
Do you feel like that?
Comparison is evil…
Comparing yourself to everyone else messes with your head and makes you question everything. It just brings up bad juju and it's like a little monster sucking away all the awesome things you have in you to create and share and contribute.
And really they are not in your situation, they don't have your commitments, your responsibilities, your clients, your hopes, your fears, your dreams.
So it's not really a fair comparison after all.
But if you must feed the comparison monster, compare yourself to yourself this time last year.
Where were you this time last year? What were you doing? What has changed in this past year?
You've made so much progress since then. I know you have. Even if things did not go well, even if you had some flops, even if things downright sucked, you learned something. And that something will give you the information you need to move forward.
I learned that I have a big message about dreams and helping folks go after their dreams and using technology in pursuit of that. I learned that I love to teach and have some fun with it. I learned that I love speaking. These are things that I will take with me as I think about my business and my life in the new year.
As you reflect and start planning for next year, take a look back, think about what you have learned and celebrate the progress you've made. Because I bet you know so much more about yourself now than you did in December 2013. And that's HUGE.
So grab a glass of bubbly or chocolate and celebrate your successes for this year. It's gonna be an even more awesome 2015!
