This week I was able to get my poetry book published. It's a collection of work over the years – a collection of words that I wrote on slips of paper, in notebooks, on napkins wherever and whenever the urge struck me.
I have wanted to put this book together for such a long time, but what made take the plunge were words I read from another poet, Veronica A. Shoffstall. Here is an excerpt from her poem, “After A While,” here:
“After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn…”
I read that poem recently when I was feeling all kinds of doubt and felt instantly better about everything – my experiences, my loves, my losses and my heartbreak. Reading it made me want to share my thoughts with the world. I also realized that to really commit to getting this book published, I needed help. I couldn't do it on my own. So I reached out to Zachary Price from Blog Into Book and told him what I wanted to do. He was super supportive, told me what I needed to get him, and a couple weeks later, my book is published. Yay! Here's a picture of the cover:

It is my hope that my words will give you comfort and help you realize that you are not alone.
It is my hope that you realize that dreams are possible – even if it feels like they are taking forever.
It is my hope that you know you can reach out for help and that there are people out there waiting to support you.
Your Turn.
