Ever heard of the Color Run? It's a 5k (think around 3.1 miles) that you can do timed or un-timed, and the whole point of it is that you get doused with color at every check point. By the time you're done, you're probably wearing about six or seven colors. PROUDLY I might add!
For me, it always seemed like such a fun thing to do so this year, I took the plunge. It was a blast. I got to run, walk, hang out and get soaked to the bone with 17,000 other people on a Sunday. I had a ball. And it got me thinking about how important it is to make sure that fun is a part of your life and your business.
If we don't focus on doing fun things every once in a while, we'll lose faith in the business we're trying to build. (tweet)

Hey there! It's Jessica Williams from techbizgurl.com. This week I want to talk to you about fun. I recently just finished the Color Run, which, I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but it's a run where … It's a 5k. You can do it timed or un-timed, and the whole point of it is that you get doused with color at every check point. By the time that you're done, you're probably wearing about six or seven colors. It always seemed like something fun to do. I decided to finally sign up for it this year, and I had a blast! Even though it poured on us like crazy. It turned out, there were seventeen thousand people that signed up, and it started raining as soon as we passed the start line, go figure.
I was soaked. I was soaked to the bone, but it was amazing. I mean, it's amazing what happens when a group of people get together, doing something they love, something that is not the typical thing. It just gives people a way to connect that they probably wouldn't have found before. That was, you know, my weekend, and it kind of reminded me of how we need to carve out time for fun in our lives.
As I kind of start thinking about things I loved as a kid: jigsaw puzzles, and reading, and playing with dolls, and all that kind of stuff. You could probably still do all that kind of stuff, although people might look at you weird if you're playing with dolls as an adult, but I think it's important to remember those things you loved as a kid. What fun things did you do, and try to reintroduce those back to your life, especially if … There are some days that you feel kind of like, “Oh my God. What the heck am I doing all this for?” I think that if we focus too much on building our businesses, or working our day jobs, or just trying to get to the end goal, we're going to miss all the opportunities that we have to have fun and enjoy ourselves. At the end of the day, that's what we're doing. We're trying to build a business so that we can do X or can do Y. If we don't focus on those things every once in a while, we'll kind of lose faith in what we're trying to build.
I encourage you this week to think of ways to put more fun into your life. As an example, I just ordered one of those adult coloring books. Yes, it's not as crazy as it sounds. It's actually a coloring book made for adults with some really intricate details and pictures. I ordered one called the “Enchanted Forest,” and I can't wait to get it and get some colored pencils, maybe some gel pens, and just have a night where I just color and maybe have some wine, or something like that. Just as a way to kind of nurture my inner kid and have a little fun, and just relax a little and enjoy myself.
Find those things that make you have fun, whether it's dancing, or sledding, or skating, or, I don't know, going to the park and playing on the swings. I still love the swings, even though I'm thirty-four. Find those things that just make you laugh or just kind of forget all of the stress for a little bit, because those are the important things. It's all about fun. It's all about embracing those things that make you, you, and those things that you're trying to get towards, that you're trying to have more of in your life. Like I said, if you're building a business, you're building it for a reason other than to make money. You're building it to create more freedom, spend more time with your family, so that you don't have to work forty hours a week. Maybe you want to do other things like speaking, or traveling, or baking, whatever you want to do.
Find little areas where you can have fun, because it's a requirement. I'm slowly trying to get into this myself, where I'm trying to find at least one fun thing to do every month. This month it was the Color Run. Last month it was learning how to two-step, country style. Find those things that light you up and just kind of like, “Hey, that sounds like fun!” If it sounds like fun, go do it. You might have a better time than you would have expected.
Just a little secret, those fun things are a good way for you to find creativity in your business, because it kind of gets you out of the typical mindset of, “Oh my God. I have to sell. I have to sell. I have to sell,” or, “I have to build my community.” It kind of takes you out of it. You're mind gets to relax a little bit, and those are the times when you are at your most creative, when you're not so focused on your business. My challenge to you this week is to find those things that just seem fun, and let me know what those are, because I'd love to hear it in the comments. I'd love for you to tell me what's on your list so I can get some ideas, too, because we're all in this together.
Enjoy the rest of your week. Find ways to have fun, and I'll talk to you soon. Bye.
