Ohhh overwhelm. We have all felt it at some point or another. It’s that thing where we feel like we have so many possible directions to go in or so much to do that we feel completely paralyzed about what to do next.
These are the days when all you want to do is crawl in your blanket fort, eat ice cream and binge on Netflix.
And you know what? That’s OK. Some days, blanket forts are required (tweet). Because you may be overwhelmed simply because you are so exhausted and trying to fight through that can cause even more frustration.
So take a day, watch some Arrow (yep totally crushing on Stephen Amell right now) and recharge.
If you find yourself still feeling like you don't know what to do next, here are some tricks to help you move forward:
Accept that you are the way that you are.
Just because it feels like everyone else has a coaching program that has 20 people in it, doesn’t mean that you have to. Remember comparison is evil. If you prefer working with folks one on one or in email or sending them audio motivation, go for it! Everyone does not learn the same way and you’ll attract those people who prefer to listen and learn or watch and learn. Or even read and learn. Do what feels most comfortable to you and you’ll attract your right people.
Take action.
I know that it’s scary to take action before you are clear. It’s almost like the chicken and the egg. You can’t take action without getting clear right? But actually you can’t get clear without taking action. If you have the smallest idea of what you want to do, give it a try on a small scale and see how it goes. Was it fun? Yes? No? A little bit? Figure out what you love about it, what you hate about it and try something different next time. Tweak here and there and keep on taking baby steps in order to get you closer to clarity.
Figure out ONE thing to do.
If you think you want to teach or coach or run a program, start there. Sell that one thing for right now. Do a trial run of like 5 people and see how it goes. As you go through it, try to be aware of your feelings. Does it feel good to you? Is it fun? Does it give you the heebeegeebees? Does only part of it make you feel awesome? Take note of those things and then next time do more of the things that make your heart skip a beat and less of those things that make you want to go grab a shot of tequila (not that tequila is a bad thing AT ALL).
